You can stop your subscription from renewing by turning off auto-renewal or by choosing to cancel at renewal. Both options allow you to continue using your subscription until the end of the current term.
If your subscription is not renewed, it moves through a defined shutoff process (Expired → Suspended → Cancelled). During part of this process, you can still renew.
Not all renewal options are available for every subscription or in all countries.
Quick links
After your offering expires or your payment has not been received by the due date, your offering moves through a series of statuses in order: Expired → Suspended → Canceled. Each stage has a set duration, and these timeframes are added together to make up the full shut-off process.
The shutoff process applies to subscriptions, prepaid Flex tokens, and paid access to Autodesk APIs. The process starts on the offering end date (when you have chosen not to renew) or invoice payment due date, whichever is earlier.

*Access to self-service features in your account depends on your renewal and payment status – for example, whether auto-renewal is turned off, cancel at renewal is selected, or if there is a payment issue. If certain features are unavailable, turn on auto-renewal, undo cancel or resolve your payment issue to restore access to those features.
You can turn off auto-renew for up to 100 subscriptions at once.
Important:
Turning off auto-renew or selecting cancel at renewal does not immediately cancel your subscription. In both cases, the subscription continues until its expiration date and then enters the shutoff process.
For subscriptions with multiple bill plans, turning off auto-renewal or cancelling does not cancel any open bill plans. Any remaining payments are still due and must be paid.
If your subscription is not renewed by the expiration date, it enters a chronological shutoff process.
This applies whether you:
Subscription statuses always change in a fixed order:
Expired → Suspended → Cancelled
You cannot pause or suspend a subscription and restart it later. The billing schedule does not change—your subscription always keeps its original renewal date and continues from the same timeline, even if you turn auto-renew off or cancel and later reactivate it.
Example:
You have a monthly subscription that renews on December 21. If you turn off auto-renew or cancel on December 20, your subscription remains active until December 21 and then enters the shutoff process.
If you turn auto-renew back on or undo the cancellation on January 10, the subscription does not start a new billing period from that date. Instead, it continues on the original schedule. You are charged on January 10 for the existing billing cycle, and the next renewal is charged on January 21, following the original renewal date.
You can still renew your subscription while it is in the Expired or Suspended stages.
This applies whether you:
Important:
If you turn auto-renew back on or manually renew during these stages, you are paying for the original subscription period—even if some time has already passed.
This means:
To start a new billing cycle, you must purchase a new subscription from your country or closest regional Autodesk site (US Site).
Monthly subscriptions follow the same shutoff process.
Key points:
Example:
Result:
Turning off auto-renew or selecting Cancel subscription at renewal does not pause or reset a monthly subscription.
In some cases:
You cannot restart expired subscriptions once the shutoff process is complete and your subscription shows as Canceled. To renew access to software and services, buy a new offering online.
Your trial software automatically expires after the trial period (typically 30 days, or 15 days for AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT). To continue using the product, you must purchase a subscription or prepaid Flex tokens.
Refunds are separate from canceling a subscription or turning off auto-renew.
To receive a full refund or return an order with an unpaid invoice, you must request it within:
This refund policy applies only to purchases and renewals of subscriptions and prepaid Flex tokens purchased directly from Autodesk or purchased through Cleverbridge on behalf of Autodesk.
In addition, this refund policy doesn’t apply to any other products, services, or offerings. Examples of offerings to which this refund policy doesn’t apply include, but aren’t limited to, the following: consulting services, platform subscriptions, extra territory rights, cloud credits, mid-term switch, Pay as You Go, and membership or similar fees. Return policies for subscription and subscription renewal charges from third-party retailers or authorised Autodesk partners may vary.
